Marcy Carlson Elected Vice President of PAA

We are pleased that CDE’s Director, Marcy Carlson, has been elected vice president of the Population Association of America (PAA). PAA is the leading U.S. scientific, professional organization promoting research on population issues. She will begin serving on January 1, 2020.

The main duties of the Vice President of PAA are to assist the PAA President in organizing the annual meeting. Planning the four-day annual conference involves working with the program committee to recruit session organizers, chairs, and discussants; evaluating submissions; and selecting papers and posters to be presented.

In addition to Marcy’s election as PAA VP, five of the ten individuals elected to lead PAA for the next year (on the Board or in other roles) have ties to Wisconsin as CDE graduate alumni or former faculty. We fully expect PAA to continue its strong track record of promoting scientific excellence, nurturing the growth of population science, and expanding the reach and relevance of demographic research.
