Biography

I am a health equity researcher with training in public health, demography, and education. As faculty in the School of Social Work, my research uses multiple methodological approaches to examining how legal, administrative, institutional, and cultural systems produce inequity for transgender and nonbinary (trans) people. Much of my work uses intersectionality frameworks to center trans people of color. Currently, I am particularly interested in how experiences of safety, violence, and precarity in adolescence and young adulthood influence disability, pain, and chronic health conditions in later adulthood among trans populations. This work will have implications for how trans communities, healthcare systems, and social service organizations work to meet trans older adults’ needs.
