CDE/CDHA affiliates and graduate students were a powerful presence at the 2024 PAA annual meeting in Columbus! Both centers were well represented with 30 faculty affiliates and 28 graduate student affiliates appearing 106 times on the program as authors, discussants, and chairs.
Emma Romell, graduate student in the Department of Sociology at UW-Madison, with coauthors Lidia Panico (Sciences Po & INED) & Melissa L. Martinson (University of Washington), was awarded a poster award for “Family structure, infant health, and social context in France, the United Kingdom and the United States.”
Julia Thomas, graduate student in the Department of Sociology at UW-Madison, was also awarded a poster award for “Legacy of the “Forgotten Dead”: Lynching of Hispanics and Risk of Being Sentenced to Death.”
Fernanda Rojas-Ampuero, Assistant Professor in Economics at UW-Madison, was awarded the Dorothy S. Thomas Award for Best Paper by a Graduate Student.
Judith Seltzer, Professor of Sociology at UCLA and longtime CDE affiliate, was awarded the inaugural Sara McLanahan Award.
CDE Director and Professor of Sociology Jenna Nobles was awarded the Clifford C. Clogg Award for Mid-Career Achievement.
In addition, CDE & CDHA affiliates served on committees for the Mindel C. Sheps, Sara McLanahan, Early Achievement, and Dorothy Thomas Awards this year – cheers to all awardees!
